What BuzzBuntu is for, what is not allowed on it, and how a report is handled.

What this place is for

BuzzBuntu is a place to see what is happening and to say what you think about it, in public or among the people you choose. Disagreement is the point. Cruelty is not.

Not allowed

The following ends a conversation with the moderators, sooner or later.

  • Harassment: targeting a person with abuse, threats, or a campaign that follows them between posts.
  • Hate: attacking people for their ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation.
  • Sexual exploitation: coercing, trading or threatening to publish somebody’s intimate images, and soliciting sexual content from anyone who does not freely consent.
  • Child sexual abuse and exploitation: any sexual content involving a minor, any content that sexualises a child, and any attempt to contact a child for a sexual purpose. This is the one category a moderator reads before anything else, and the one the platform will act on fastest.
  • Non-consensual intimate images, and threats to publish them.
  • Impersonation of another person, a business or the platform itself.
  • Misleading identity or verification claims: implying a verification badge, an official role, or a business identity that the account does not hold.
  • Spam: bulk advertising, repeated identical posts, engagement farming, and automated accounts that pretend to be people.
  • Fraud: fake listings, fake businesses, payment requests for goods that do not exist, and deliberate misrepresentation.
  • Malicious links: links to malware, phishing pages, or anything designed to take a person’s credentials or money.
  • Illegal goods and services, and content that instructs somebody how to do serious harm.
  • Private information about another person, published without their consent.

The tools you have

You do not have to wait for a moderator to protect yourself, and blocking is stronger than reporting.

  • Blocking stops the blocked account starting a conversation with you, sending into an existing one, following you, and reaching your notifications. It is one-way and the other person is not told.
  • Muting is weaker: a muted account keeps its profile and its voice, but leaves your following feed and stops reaching your notifications.
  • A conversation request from somebody you do not follow waits for you to accept or decline before anything can be said in it.
  • A group you create is yours to run: you choose whether it is public or private, who may join, and who may add, remove or promote members.
  • Reporting puts a post, a comment, a message or a listing in front of a moderator.

Age

An account cannot be created below the age of 13. Registration asks for a date of birth and refuses the account when the date implies an age below the minimum; the date is held server-side and is never shown on a profile.

This is an attestation, not identity verification. The platform takes the declared date at its word, and does not claim that a declared birth date proves an age.

What happens after a report

A report is read by a moderator who can see the reported item and its context in the queue. The moderator can leave it alone, withdraw a message from the conversation it was sent in, or return a listing to its seller with a note.

The person who filed a report is told the outcome. The person whose content was reported is not told who reported them.

A message withdrawn by a moderator disappears from the conversation for everyone in it. A post hidden by moderation disappears from every listing that would have carried it.

A child-safety report carries its own reason, so it is identifiable as such the moment it reaches the queue rather than being read as a general complaint. The platform does not scan images for child sexual abuse material: there is no approved provider or operational process for that, and a claim that one existed would be false. Such a report is handled by a person, and where the law requires it, reported to the authorities.

If you think a decision was wrong

There is no formal appeals queue yet. Until there is, a decision can be questioned through the phone number on the platform, +234 803 668 2403, and it will be read by a person rather than by a queue.
