Umuahia South is the capital's southern half, made of the Ubakala, Umuopara, Olokoro and neighbouring clans, with its headquarters at Apumiri in Ubakala. Its towns include Apumiri, Ezeleke and Ekenobizi, and its working life is market gardening for the city beside it, with the full town-community calendar: Iri ji, masquerade, age-grade and title ceremonies, and church harvest thanksgivings. Its public history runs through the mission schools and the local government system, and through the food, labour and soldiers its towns gave the colonial capital.
