The National War Museum in Umuahia is the country's war museum, and what it holds is the civil-war record. Umuahia was the seat of the Biafran government through 1968 and much of 1969, which is why the museum stands in this city rather than another, and Ojukwu's bunker is nearby. Umuahia has been the capital of Abia State since the state was created out of Imo State on 27 August 1991, and its own entry describes the city around the museum. This place is the record of the war itself: the materiel, the photographs and the accounts that a country keeps so that the war is remembered as history rather than as folklore.
