Amakama Wooden Cave

Umuahia, Abia, Nigeria

The Amakama wooden cave is a living tree with a hollow chamber inside it, in the Amakama area of Umuahia, and it is among the town's older landmarks. The two photographs in this gallery are of the tree and of the inside of its hollow. This entry does not repeat the height and the capacity that circulate with the photographs, because those figures are the photographer's rather than the community's, and the dossier marks them as still to be confirmed. What the tree is called, what the community's own account of it is, and who may visit are what this record is waiting for; until then it states what it can source, which is the tree, the hollow and the place.
